In 2014, Will Hall Online took on several new members of staff and undertook several of its biggest projects yet. It was an exciting year for the business, but was not without its challenges. One of the most significant of these was an ever-increasing administrative workload resulting from this growth.
To help manage our operations, we’ve adopted a range of technologies which help us to track the amount of time we spend on projects, communicate issues with clients, and maintain our social media presence. ...

Will Hall Online are excited to announce that we will now be offering both development AND design in house from March 2014.
Why now? Regularly our services are employed by Web Design agencies offering web development but not being able to deliver the functionality required by their clients. Having worked with a vast number of designers we feel that it is in the best interest of our clients that we offer the both design and development as part of our service. ...

Getting accurate details from users about the setup of their system can be difficult. Often the quizzical user may suggest “it doesn’t look like that on my computer” or “can you make it bigger on the screen”, however, when you ask what browser, screen size, operating system they are using it can be possible to get a blank look. In fact I am sure we can all appreciate that some people think of Internet Explorer as the internet. ...

Will Hall Online has featured in the Anglia Ruskin University Alumni magazine for our work with Integro Languages. We are building a CRM system using Drupal to enable more efficient and scalable management of their translation and interpretation business. We are proud to be working with Integro Languages especially because it maintains links with our previous university.
I had a fabulous time, both academically and socially, whilst at university in Cambridge and seeing the progress of others who you shared accomodation, lectures and student bars with is a great validation of education. ...

Have you heard about the Mindful Employer Initiative? Nither had I until now. Launched in 2004, the “MINDFUL EMPLOYER® is open to any employer in the UK, whether small, medium or large, private, public or voluntary sector…and provides information, advice and practical support for people whose mental health affects their ability to find or remain in employment.”
When you have signed up to the Charter for Employers who are Positive About Mental Health, or if you are a supporting organisation who has signed their Partnership Agreement, you will then be able to use the MINDFUL EMPLOYER® Registered Trade Mark to show your commitment to the initiative. ...

Now that got your attention!
You’ll notice that I didn’t use the term Mental Health or Well-being in the title of this article. This was a conscious decision some may not agree with but unfortunately there is still a stigma attached to the issues of mental health, and many people feel uncomforatble talking about it. The word well-being has negative connotations of its own, including those who associate this term with a somewhat ‘fluffy’ or ‘soft’ approach, even conjuring up images of yoga, meditation and old-fashioned teambuilding exercises. ...

At last nights DrupalCambs Meetup, a discussion arose about why to use something, be it computer-based or otherwise. The conversation based upon why to use a base theme and build up from that as opposed to creating a custom theme in Drupal, however, I thought that the kernel of the discussion was focussed on why we try to develop new options/ideas. Three words were ringing in my head; easier, quicker, better. ...

Learning is something that all of us probably do all of the time, both consciously (by reading newspapers/books/adverts/BBC website) and subconsciously(from surroundings etc.). However, when you want/or need to learn about something new, or to develop your knowledge on certain aspects what is the best way to go about it.
Personally I do very little reading for pleasure. Although that is not entirely true I look at reading more as the acquisition of more knowledge than the passive fictional sense of being taken through a story. ...

I recently presented at the NetSquaredCamb Meetup group. Here are the presentation slides Open Source CMS for SMEs, Charities and NGOs.
Open source content management systems (OSCMS) are being utilised by a growing number of organisations, not only to manage their presence on the Internet, but also to assist in the running of their business processes and give workers flexible working arrangement. How can small to medium businesses, charities and non governmental organisations use OSCMS to drive efficiency and grow their business within the specific restraints over these businesses, with all resources; budget, time and knowledge being at a premium. ...
